We Love Maude

A couple of months ago, Peoria Nazarene Church was blessed with the opportunity to adopt Dr. Maude A. Sanders Primary School in Peoria. The staff, administration, and teachers at Maude are wonderful. The PTO has two amazing leaders that really care about the students, families, and staff. We love the wonderful students at Maude!

This past month of ministry at Maude has been a blessing. Here are some of the ways that we have been able to serve.

  1. Popcorn Fridays – Every other Friday at Maude the PTO fundraises by selling popcorn to the students. Several of our volunteers have been involved in helping the past few weeks with this fundraiser. We make around 500 bags of popcorn to sell. Our church donates all of the popcorn supplies to help the PTO with this fundraiser. We also are raising money to donate a commercial popcorn machine for the PTO. We have been using two older non-commercial machines. One of them recently broke down. We are about 1/3 of the way toward raising enough money to purchase a commercial machine.
  2. Trunk or Treat – On Friday, October 28, several volunteers worked along side the PTO in decorating cars for the school’s Trunk or Treat before Halloween. One person estimated that we had close to 800 people participate from the community. The PTO leaders did an amazing job with this event. Our church was able to donate all of the candy for this event… we had so many people come that we had to go and purchase more candy twice!
  3. New Washer and Dryer – On Monday, November 7, Sherman’s delivered a brand new washer and dryer to the school donated by our church. Almost 20 families gave funds to completely pay for a new washer and dryer, and raise funds toward a new popcorn machine. This new washer and dryer will be a blessing to the entire school, but especially the Life Skills program. Maude has several students with special needs. The new washer and dryer will enable staff to launder garments and towels at the school.
  4. Parent Teacher Conferences – Our church has been blessed to be able to provide food for the teachers and staff during the last two parent teacher conferences. We are thankful for the amazing staff, admin, and teachers at Maude and glad to be a small blessing.

Going forward we are in process of receiving approval from Midwest Food Bank to begin Snack Packs at Maude. The Snack Packs program will enable our church to donate 400 snack packs every Friday to be sent home with students. We are excited to begin this new ministry and help serve families from Maude.
