An Attitude of Gratitude

A recent article on Harvard Health links a connection between gratitude and happiness. People who regularly take time to give thanks are generally happier. Sometimes we can be so narrowly focused on our own lives or on troubling things happening in the world, that we miss appreciating the goodness that is all around us. Gratitude invites us to rediscover the true source of thankfulness and look beyond ourselves to see the goodness that is all around us. It is important that we take time to realize the power of an attitude of gratitude. Built right into the holiday season is an opportunity to slow down and give thanks.

“The word gratitude is derived from the Latin word gratia, which means grace, graciousness, or gratefulness (depending on the context). In some ways, gratitude encompasses all of these meanings. Gratitude is a thankful appreciation for what an individual receives, whether tangible or intangible. With gratitude, people acknowledge the goodness in their lives. In the process, people usually recognize that the source of that goodness lies at least partially outside themselves. As a result, being grateful also helps people connect to something larger than themselves as individuals — whether to other people, nature, or a higher power.” Harvard Health Publishing, August 14, 2021

We invite you to join us at our weekly worship gathering at 10:30 AM on Sunday 11/13 and 11/20. On these two Sundays, the messages will be on, “An Attitude of Gratitude.”

We will look at Colossians 2:6-7 and see how we can live abundantly thankful lives. God’s Word help us see that the key to gratitude is something far greater than material things, health, or even favorable circumstances… it flows from a heart that is filled with God’s love. The good news is that God’s love is for everyone. We all can know and build our lives in the love of God through Jesus Christ. The result we can expect is an overflow of thankfulness.

On Sunday 11/13, we are going to spend intentional time giving thanks through worship and then share a Thanksgiving meal immediately following the service. We would love to have you. Everyone is invited. Let us know that you are coming here.

We hope you join us for these to Sundays as we all seek to have an attitude of gratitude this Thanksgiving and Christmas season.

“And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.” Colossians 2:6-7 NLT
